Therapy Approaches
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidence-based therapy approach. EFT helps you work through painful/maladaptive emotions holding you back and transform them into healthier ones. Difficulties with self-esteem, relationships, anxiety and depression are often rooted in negative ways of dealing with emotions. If we improve our emotional health, we can enjoy a more fulfilling life with quality relationships.
Emotions are central to our psychological health. They act as our inner compass, guiding us to make informed decisions and actions to meet our needs. In EFT, we enhance awareness of your emotional world and your ability to regulate and move forward from painful emotional experiences. Effective change happens through a safe therapeutic relationship with your therapist and key experiential practices such as Role Playing & Psychological Enactments.
In this therapy approach, we pay special attention to early attachment history, including relationships with parents & significant others. Relationships and whether our attachment needs are adequately met are at the centre of our experience. Unmet attachment needs stemming from early childhood experiences or unmet attachment needs in our current relationships can adversely affect our emotional health & well-being.
In Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), we pay special attention to how our thoughts & core beliefs shape our perception, experience & behaviours. Finding new ways of thinking and engaging in alternative behaviours are vital to create effective change. CBT is appropriate for people who prefer more structure in therapy and are open to engaging in exercises between sessions to facilitate effective change.
